Straight Answers on Commercial AC Repair or Replacement in Gonzales

Commercial HVAC Repair and Installation in Gonzales, LA

Rooftop units don't quit on slow days. They quit at 2 p.m. on an August Friday, with a lunch crowd behind you and a full weekend ahead.

GeauxHVAC repairs, installs, and maintains heating and cooling systems for businesses in Gonzales and across Ascension Parish. We're a family-owned shop based in Gonzales, licensed, insured, and BBB-certified, with more than 25 years of installation experience on the crew.

Most small and mid-size commercial buildings around here (offices, storefronts, restaurants, churches, shops with a front office) run on packaged rooftop units or split systems. That's the equipment we work on. If your building runs on a chiller plant or a cooling tower, call anyway. We'll tell you straight whether the job is ours or someone else's.

Commercial HVAC Services

Here's what we handle, starting with the call nobody wants to make.

Commercial AC and Heating Repair

Warm air from the supply vents. A unit that short-cycles all afternoon. A breaker that won't stay on. Water staining the ceiling tiles over the front desk. Our technicians track down the cause and fix it, whether it's a rooftop unit, a split system, or a heat pump. That includes AC repair in the summer and heating repair when the first cold front rolls through.

Rooftop Unit Maintenance

A rooftop unit in Ascension Parish runs hard from March into October, sitting in full sun the whole time. Pollen and leaves pack the condenser coil. Belts stretch. Capacitors weaken in the heat. If you run a kitchen, the hood exhaust coats the coil in grease. Scheduled HVAC maintenance catches those problems while they're still cheap, not on the hottest day of July.

Commercial HVAC Replacement and Installation

When a unit isn't worth saving, we size the new system to the building and how you use it, not just to the number on the old nameplate. We install packaged rooftop units, split systems, gas heat, heat pumps, and electric air handlers, and every install is backed by our workmanship guarantee. Ductwork and Airflow

If the back office freezes while the conference room bakes, the unit usually isn't the problem. The air just isn't getting there. Undersized runs, crushed flex duct, and leaky joints above a drop ceiling all steal capacity you're already paying for. Our ductwork services and duct sealing and repair fix it at the source.

Ductless Mini-Splits and Controls

Some spaces don't belong on the main system: a server closet that needs cooling around the clock, a shop office inside a metal building, an addition the ductwork never reached. A ductless mini-split handles those without overworking the rooftop unit. We also install smart thermostats and zoning, so you're not cooling an empty building all weekend.

What a Dead Rooftop Unit Really Costs

The repair bill is usually the smaller number. A restaurant loses a dinner service. A dental office reschedules a full day of patients. A retail floor at 88 degrees empties out by mid-afternoon. That's why we price the job before we start any work, so you can make the call in minutes instead of waiting around on a quote.

We'll also tell you when a repair is the wrong move. If your unit is 15 years old and still runs R-22, a major repair might buy you a season or two. Sometimes that's worth it: patch it, get through summer, and replace it in the fall when a day of downtime hurts less. Sometimes it isn't. We'll lay out both options with real numbers and let you decide. Our repair or replace guide walks through the same math.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer common concerns before visitors call

What's the difference between commercial and residential HVAC?

Size, power, and where the equipment sits. A house usually runs on a 1.5 to 5 ton split system with the condenser on a pad outside. Most commercial buildings use packaged rooftop units that hold everything in one cabinet, often run on three-phase power, and commonly range from 3 to 25 tons. Many also carry economizers and larger blower assemblies that need their own checks during service.

How often should a commercial rooftop unit be serviced in Louisiana?

Twice a year is the baseline: once in late winter before cooling season kicks in around March, and once in the fall before the first cold snap. Filters usually need changing every one to three months. Units near a kitchen hood exhaust often need coil cleaning more than twice a year. The unit that runs March through October without a check is the one that fails in July.

Why is water dripping from the ceiling tiles when our AC runs?

Most often it's a clogged condensate drain. In South Louisiana humidity, a commercial AC pulls gallons of water out of the air every day, and algae builds up in the drain line until the pan overflows. If the system has a safety float switch, it may shut your cooling off entirely, which is sometimes the first sign. Turn the system off at the thermostat, catch the water, and call before the tile gives way or mold starts growing above it.

Is it normal for our rooftop unit to run all day in the summer?

On a 95-degree afternoon in Gonzales, yes. A properly sized unit can run almost nonstop and still be healthy. What matters is whether it's keeping up. If it runs all day and the space won't drop below the high 70s, something is off: a dirty coil, a refrigerant leak, a failing compressor, or a unit that was undersized for the building from day one. A diagnostic visit will tell you which.

Should we repair our old rooftop unit or replace it?

Look at age, refrigerant, and repair history. A unit under 10 years old with one failed part is usually worth fixing. A unit 15 years or older running R-22 is a harder case, because R-22 hasn't been produced in the U.S. since 2020 and what's left is expensive. New units use A2L refrigerants like R-454B and R-32, so replacing also gets you off a refrigerant that's harder to service every year. Ask for both prices on the same visit and compare them side by side.
